Book 1: A Strange Gift teaches the lesson of responsible spending and the importance of honesty and dependability. Book 2: Dog Fight teaches the necessity of budgeting and the value of courage and loyalty. Book 3: Paradise Lost teaches how to acquire valuable job skills and the value of patience and tenacity. Book 4: Squirrel Pot Pie teaches the lesson of savings and the value of leadership and compassion. Book 5: Bandits and Robbers teaches the lesson of banking and the value of teamwork and collaboration.
The protagonist, Eli, finds out on his seventh birthday that he is actually the son of a deceased wolf king. Before he was born, a coyote poisoned the water source in his father’s kingdom and turned every citizen mad. The wolf king went into exile, gave up his own life to save his siblings, and left behind an enchanted collar. To restore his father’s lost kingdom, Eli must locate all of the jewels missing from the enchanted collar and find a cure for the wolf citizens’ insanity. Eli kisses his mother good-bye and embarks on a long journey. Along the way, he rescues a pig named Earl and a squirrel named Skipper. Both Earl and Skipper decide to join Eli’s quest. Together they acquire friends and allies, and they defeat assassins, bandits, thieves, and robbers.
Through their trials and tribulations, the trio learns the value of money, the skills necessary to earn money, the difference between needs and wants, the importance of savings, the benefits of banking, the proficiency of budgeting, and the art of investment. While crossing national borders, they also learn about foreign exchange, international trade, and cultural diversities. Eli’s travel companions frequently get into arguments as a result their opposing attitudes toward money. Earl is a compulsive spender. Skipper is a studious saver. Eli mediates their arguments, strikes the balance between indulgence and frugality, and hones his leadership skills.
In the end, the three friends return to the wolf kingdom with an elixir, restore the wolf citizens’ sanity, and defeat the evil coyote king. Eli becomes the new wolf king and appoints Skipper his Minister of Banking and Earl his Minister of Food and Agriculture. Together, they lead the wolf kingdom to great peace and prosperity.
