Math can be fun and exciting! In fact, numbers can be so exciting that there are cable channels dedicated to entertaining people with numbers and charts. Just look at CNBC, Fox Business, CNN Money, and a slew of other business news networks, blaring numbers at us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Math can be so addictive that traders—professional and novice alike—are hooked on the rolling ticker tape at the bottom of their TV screens. As stock prices tick up and down, so goes their emotional roller coaster all day long.
Although math seems highly seductive to Wall Street traders, it appears quite repulsive to many children in school. Especially with high schoolstudents, math is often regarded as a badge of honor reserved solely for geeks who can’t get a date. So what has contributed to the polar-opposite attitudes toward math between Wall Street traders and school-aged children?
The difference is caused no only by the magic green dollar sign but, more importantly, by the fact that Wall Street traders understand how math can bring direct benefit to their careers and lives, while children often have a hard time understanding why in the world they need to be bothered with math.
So why don’t we inculcate in our children the purpose and excitement of math through the Enchanted Collar™ series? Full of real-life examples, Eli’s adventures demonstrate to children how critical math is to Eli’s success in every step of his journey. Without a good grasp of math, Eli and his friends encounter repeated setbacks. Only after their mastery of numbers do they achieve the ultimate success in their quest.
